Sabercats 14U-1

We > Me

Good Alone. Better Together.

Winning is a data point, but it is not the main focus. Developing our athletes to play the game of hockey the right way is our primary focus. The results will follow.

Teaching how to conduct yourself in difficult moments is a life long skill. Learning humility is another. Working together as One Team translates into feeling successful no matter the outcome. Having each others back is knowing how to give and take compliments and leaning into what works and not obsessing on what isn’t. That is what builds a great team and an individual who is resilient and caring. These are some of the intangibles that come out of teaching what is a given - shooting. passing. skating. saving. working hard and then even harder.

This is our approach and it works.

The coaches for this season:

Spencer Mains
Coach Spencer Mains returns to coaching with the Sabercats this season as he approaches twenty years on the bench. Most recently, he served as head coach of the Sabercats 12U-1 team and the Stanford University Hockey Team, which competes in Division 2 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Having coached with Mark Smith (former NHL shark) for 3 years on Sabercats, Todd brings incredible insight to our hockey club which he has been applying throughout his hockey journey.

Todd is a former D1 athlete in wresting at Boston College. He tried out for the hockey team, but after years of hockey ultimately decided to change things up and excel in a different sport. Todd has two boys currently playing with the Sabercats.

Allen Lin (Practices and time permitting, bench)
Coach Allen Lin brings over a decade of skating and skills coaching experienced, backed by a degree in kinesiology and biomechanics.  His expertise spans nutrition, sports psychology, and physiology.  These, complemented by his collegiate club hockey experience, drive his focus on science-driven, holistic athlete development at all levels. Coach Allen is a Level 4 USA Hockey certified coach.

Trevor Waechter (Goalie Coach)
Coach Trevor Waechter is a native of Vacaville. He began playing with the Jets and then moved on to tier hockey with both the Jr. Sharks and Golden State Elite. He then played WHAC Division 1 hockey for Concordia University on a full athletic scholarship. There, he received accolades for his sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic responsibility, earning the WHAC Champion of Character Award. Upon returning to the Bay Area, Trevor went on to become head goalie coach for Golden State Elite and the Sabercats. In addition to leading the goalie program for San Francisco, Trevor most recently was a 10u Sabercats head coach.
