Pre-Season 3 vs. Colts
Player of the Game as Selected by Teo was Jensen. The CatHat was passed.
Teo said it well post game. “Though the player of the game did not score a goal or get any assists, he played hard and made a difference anyway”.
That is what this is all about. The work ethic. There is always more to the score in sports and though that is somewhat obviously and even a bit trite, it is what matters in a lopsided loss. We worked hard from start to finish and that aligns with our stand - not fixating on the score of the game. Just play smart. Play hard. Make the effort. These are all strong attributes. I personally think if our reputation in the end is “that SF team is the hardest working group in the league” I will take it. Everyone should.
Second star, selected by Coach Spencer, was Ben. He had an exceptional game scoring twice and getting one apple. Third star selected by Coach Todd was Martin. This is the second game in a row Martin has received recognition post game. This is a player’s, player.
Shash with a goal and an assist along with Teo and Ryan getting wonderful assist as well. Getting her first point of the season was Genevieve setting up a the start of a play deep in our zone resulting in an eventual goal. Massive improvement by her in this game as compared to Friday.
Areas of opportunity are with our power play as well as penalty kill. The team got a very brief overview in the parking lot per Sasha’s suggestion and we did execute relatively well. Our focus this Thursday will be on special teams and practicing our structure and I think we will have massive shift executing better in the coming weeks.
As far as our placement is concerned - BB or A - will be decided possibly this coming week by NorCal. It is possible we will have a bubble game as we are either lower A or top BB at this point. Stay tuned, but for now we will not see a season schedule until next week.
Team leadership will be shared on Thursday prior to practice. I wanted to do that today, but I wanted to see how things played the game and I had to leave earlier than usual today.
Today was a good outing and wanted to note that we did hit the post three times in this game and a very near miss by Sasha with a few seconds remaining in the second. Those go in we would have had a completely different outcome. The Colts had a much larger roster than we did and we hung tight regardless.
We do work hard and for that I am proud.
Fritz faced 41 shots today. Most so far. He stood on his head.
